How to block TikTok on iPhone

The For You Page is engineered to keep you swiping, and the minutes vanish. Here’s how to block TikTok on your iPhone, from Apple’s built-in limits to a lock you can’t tap past.

TikTok’s For You page is the most aggressively optimized feed ever built: every swipe is a fresh pull of the slot-machine lever, tuned on billions of watch-seconds to find exactly what keeps you there. That’s why “five minutes” on TikTok turns into an hour more reliably than on any other app, and why it’s consistently the hardest one to quit. A daily limit that politely asks you to stop doesn’t stand a chance against a feed built like this — you need a block that doesn’t take “ignore” for an answer, and a way to let the craving pass instead of fighting it bare-handed.

Block TikTok the free way, with Screen Time

iOS has a built-in tool called Screen Time. It can put a daily limit on TikTok in a couple of minutes:

  1. Open Settings and tap Screen Time. If it’s off, tap Turn On Screen Time.
  2. Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.
  3. Search for TikTok, tick it, and tap Next.
  4. Set the limit as low as it goes, 1 minute, then tap Add.
  5. From now on, TikTok greys out once you pass that minute for the day.

For a stricter version, use Downtime (Settings › Screen Time › Downtime) to switch off TikTok during set hours, like work or bedtime.

The catch: it’s one tap to ignore

When the limit hits, iOS still shows an “Ignore Limit” button. One tap, “Ignore for Today”, and TikTok opens anyway. If the habit is strong, that escape hatch is usually all it takes to undo the block.

The stronger way: Cascade

Cascade is a focus app built on the same Apple Screen Time system, but designed to remove the easy way out and help the urge pass:

FAQ

Can I block TikTok but keep my other apps?
Yes. You pick exactly which apps to block, seal TikTok and leave everything else untouched.
Will I lose my TikTok drafts or account?
No. Blocking just pauses the app. Your drafts, account and following are untouched and return the moment the block lifts.
Why does TikTok open again after I set a Screen Time limit?
Because Screen Time shows an “Ignore Limit” button you can tap. Cascade’s Vault mode removes that escape hatch, so the block actually holds.
Should I delete TikTok or just block it?
Blocking usually sticks better. Deleting feels decisive, but reinstalling takes under a minute and the algorithm remembers you — most people are back within days. A scheduled block keeps the app (and your account) but removes it from your reflexes, which is what actually breaks the loop.
Can I block TikTok only at night?
Yes — that’s the classic TikTok trap window. Set a Cascade routine from, say, 22:00 to 07:00 and the block starts and ends automatically every day. Pair it with a bedtime Downtime in iOS if you want double coverage.
What about TikTok in Safari — can’t I just use the website?
The web version is real leakage. In iOS Screen Time you can add tiktok.com under Content Restrictions › Web Content to cover the browser side, and block the app itself with Cascade. In practice the app is where the habit lives — most people find blocking it is enough.
Why do I feel restless the first days after blocking TikTok?
That’s the dopamine system recalibrating — boredom feels louder when the fastest hit is gone. It typically eases within a week. Cascade’s urge-surfing meditation exists for exactly those spikes: ride one out and it passes in about a minute.
